What is a barrier?

A barrier is an element intended to protect persons from various hazards and to restrict or control the movement of persons or vehicles. Barriers can be constructed from a variety of materials – steel, glass, plastic or wood.

Why have your balustrade load tested?

Balustrade load tests are often required to validate design calculations, demonstrate the quality of the installation or confirm the safety and suitability of barriers.

Typical reasons why our clients require handrail load testing:

• After installation on-site (before first use)
• After a recent failure of a similar barrier
• After a visual inspection identifies a potential risk
• As part of a continuous risk management plan
• When there is a change of use in a building
• When there are no historical records for a newly purchased property

BS 6399 live load reduction is specified in code sections 6.1 through 6.3.

Only live loadings with the 'Live (Reducible)' type are reduced.

For columns, the Table 2 and Table 3 values from the code are calculated and the greater of the two reductions is used. For other members, the Table 3 values are used.

Bs 63991:1996 Student

For columns, the moment and shear values are reduced by the same reduction factor as the axial force values; this is different from what is specified in the note in Section 6.2 of BS 6399. This does not affect any design in RAM Concept (or the RAM Structural System), but it does affect the reported column reaction values.

Bs 63991:1996 Mechanical Engineering

Live load reduction is not used for one-way and two-ways slabs. Acronis free clone software.
